St Michael the Archangel is the parish church for Kirkby-in-Malhamdale, a large rural parish covering 36 square miles, from the edge of Gargrave to Fountains Fell, and covering the villages of Airton, Calton, Scosthrop, Otterburn, Kirkby Malham, Hanlith, Malham, and Malham Moor. St Michael's is one of three churches in the recently created Upper Aire Benefice of Gargrave, Coniston Cold, and Kirkby Malham.
